FAQs about demolition

Our demolition services regularly play a large part in construction projects of all sizes. Each project is always different and there is normally a unique set of requirements to be met.

Below you will find the answers to any questions you may have. If you can’t find the answers you need, please do get in touch with a member of our team for more details.

How much does demolition cost?

The cost of demolition is one of the biggest questions that our customers ask. With budgetary restrictions tighter than ever, construction managers need to know that the demolition services they get will be good value for money. When asked how much does demolition cost, our response is that it is largely dictated by the number, size and complexity of the project, bearing in mind the different budgets involved and timescales that need to be worked to.

All of Rabbit Demolition’s demolition projects are priced on the total work required, not just the demolition itself. Project costs include any preparation work required prior to the demolition of any buildings or structures, as well as subsequent site clearance, recycling or concrete crushing, as required.

Our demolition experts will check that only the correct machinery is used for your demolition project and we can also make the most of the other services which we have in house at the Rabbit Group, such as plant hire, portable toilet hire and skip hire, where necessary, which could help lower the cost of your demolition.

Demolition site health and safety

Another big consideration for construction project managers is the question of what is necessary to ensure demolition site health and safety standards are met and this is an area in which our demolition experts can assist, if required.

When planning your demolition project, there are several safety factors which must be taken into account and properly dealt with. Advance planning and the correct levels of risk assessment are key to achieving the very best possible outcome.

All businesses should have a health and safety policy that underlies their operations and should also have a designated “competent person” who can recognise potential hazards and rectify them.

Common risk factors on a demolition site include a range of safety risks which you may not have considered, such as asbestos risks, falls from height and injury from falling debris. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask one of our team of demolition experts for more information.

Another safety question arises when our customers ask us what regulatory standards we adhere to. As Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and National Demolition Training Group (NDTG) members, you can be sure that your demolition project will be carried out to the highest professional standards.

Sustainability and environmental care

We are committed to sustainability – for this reason, we never resort to landfill and all demolition waste produced in the surrounding area is transported to our modern Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) located in Lancing, West Sussex.

The waste is assessed, then sorted mechanically to remove any material that can be reused or recycled with the remaining residue being recovered into one of two fuel types:

  • Biomass/wood, which we use as fuel to generate green electricity which can power approximately 8,000 homes.
  • Refuse derived fuel (RDF) which is supplied to other local power stations for energy generation.

We can usually cater for demolition projects of most sizes and we will always look to complete them in the most environmentally friendly and cost effective way.
