In mid-2023, Rabbit Demolition successfully carried out the demolition of four former retail units located at 190–194 Mitcham Road, Tooting, in South West London.
The work was undertaken on behalf of Rocco Homes as part of a wider redevelopment plan to construct 22 luxury residential apartments along with a ground floor commercial unit.
Challenges and Considerations
This project involved several site-specific and logistical challenges:
- Busy Location: The property was situated on a well-trafficked street in Tooting, requiring careful coordination to minimise disruption to the local area.
- Access and Safety: Scaffolding was erected around the front, side and rear elevations of the building to provide secure access and egress for workers and equipment.
- Urban Environment: Working within a dense urban setting required strict adherence to health, safety and environmental regulations, as well as close cooperation with neighbouring businesses and residents.
Outcomes and Goals
The objective of the project was to complete the full demolition and site clearance of the existing structures, enabling the client to proceed with redevelopment.
